I am sponsoring this fast track case for Fred Gotwald.

This project revises an undocumented/un-ARCed interface in vbsc and
defines a new "Mini" MD used by N1/N2/VF/Rock to provide a mechanism to
download initial data used by hypervisor.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, this case
documents these interfaces:

1. The register contents when the HV starts.

2. That %g3 is a pointer to the base address
of the mini-md, and the memory pointed to
by the mini md is transient.

3. Some (or all?) of the contents of the
platform root node in the mini md?

I think this needs a bit of work and it's
not quite ready for a fast-track timeout
yet.

a. Which globals?

b. Where's the reference to the mini-md format
and what's the contents of the mini-md?

c. What's the data format of the new variables
in the mini md's platform root node and
please specify exactly what the platform root
node is if it isn't defined in some other case.

d. Is the cpuset variable simply a 64-bit integer
bit mask? If not, where is the format defined,
and how do we represent platforms with more than
64 threads? Please specify all of this for each
variable defined by this case or reference other
    cases that provide these definitions.

e. We need to be a little more specific about the
longevity of the mini-md pointed to be %g3. What's
the requirement on the hv here? That it be copied
out prior to initiating any communication with the
vbsc, or what? (I think it's an implementation detail
that it's put in the fpga/sram, but it's not an
implementation detail if that memory is excluded
    from the available memory.)

f. Please specify exactly which interfaces are being
imported and which ones are being exported by this
case and what their interface taxonomy is.

I think you should put this case in "waiting need spec"
and come back when you have a better interface document.

Finally, I think it's good that you are trying to document
this interface.

-David

One other question: the way the case is defined, the root node will
contain a value "total_physmem", but I don't think that' sufficient to
describe the memory layout when we have physical address holes (which
will arise due to asymmetrical dimm populations across multiple CMPs).

Can the mini MD instead have a series of fwd arcs (memory-segment?) to
nodes that contain and address and size?

Steve
