I am sponsoring this fast track case for Yu Kong.

This case defines :
   - platform name and banner for Congo system
   - VBSC/POST interface for Congo. This interface is identical to Maramba
(FWARC/2007/605, section 7) with a minor change in "IO Device
Results" field.

One pager is attached and also copied to case materials directory:
    http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2008/086/congo-onepager.txt

Case timer is set to expire on 2/14/2008

Release Binding:
    firmware: minor/micro firmware release
    OS: minor/micro/patch OS release.

2. Project Summary

   2.1. Project Description:

Congo 4U AC/DC server are the next generation CMT 19" rack
servers for Telecom market. Congo is based on Victoria Falls
processors, and it is leveraged from Maramba motherboard.

This project registers the "banner-name" and root node "name"
property values used on the Congo platform. OpenBoot extracts
these values from the guest MDs and creates the properties for
	Solaris to use.

Minor changes are also required to the vBSC/POST interface to
allow POST to return information relevant to I/O devices found
	on Congo.

   2.2 Risks and Assumptions:

	Assumptions:
	------------
	- Congo OepnBoot code will be leverage from Maramba OpenBoot.
There is no OpenBoot code change.

	- All Maramba related FWARC cases are reviewed and approved
	prior to Congo release.

3. Business Summary
   3.1. Problem Area:

This one pager provides information about properties and name
provided by Congo at the system firmware level, which must be
	registered with FWARC.

   3.2. Market/Requester:

        NSN

   3.3. Business Justification:

When the related code changes are integrated into 4.x gate.

4. Technical Description:

   4.1 New Development

   4.1.1 OpenBoot properties

Congo will have the following root name "name" and
	"banner-name" properties.

	   Value: "Sun Netra T5440"

   4.1.2 vBSC/POST interface

vBSC/POST interface for Congo is identical to the one defined for
Maramba (FWARC/2007/605 section 7) with a very minor change in
"IO Device Results" field. The unused bit 9 (in Maramba) is used
	in Congo.

   4.1.2 vBSC/POST interface

vBSC/POST interface for Congo is identical to the one defined for
Maramba (FWARC/2007/605 section 7) with a very minor change in
"IO Device Results" field. The unused bit 9 (in Maramba) is used
	in Congo.

If this case is extending the sun4v vbsc/post interface specification document:

http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2007/605/materials/sun4v_vbsc_post_interface.txt

Then please create a new version of that specification with your changes so that all vbsc and post interface information for all sun4v platforms can be found in a single document. Basically, add a section 9 for Congo.

Steve

Yes, it is adding a new platform (Congo).
I would add a new section in Sun4v VBSC/POST interface document and copy
it in case directory.

Thanks,
Sunit

For someone not fluent in the fwarc case materials management, how would they
find the latest complete vbsc/post interface?

I plan to update the IAM* file in FWARC/2007/605 pointing to an updated
spec in FWARC/2008/086.
I have asked Steve Ehring to change access permissions to that file for
me to update.

Regards,
Sunit

vBSC/POST interface for Congo is identical to the one defined for
Maramba (FWARC/2007/605 section 7) with a very minor change in "IO
Device Results" field. The unused bit 9 (in Maramba) is used

If this case is extending the sun4v vbsc/post interface specification
document:

<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2007/605/materials/sun4v_vbsc_post_interface.txt">http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2007/605/materials/sun4v_vbsc_post_interface.txt</a>

Then please create a new version of that specification with your changes
so that all vbsc and post interface information for all sun4v platforms
can be found in a single document. Basically, add a section 9 for Congo.

I think an even better thing to do would be to add a link to the FWARC
approved specs section of the main page. I should have done that with
the original case I suppose.

Sunit: can you update the FWARC main page with this new version of the
spec? I've updated the IAM permissions for you.

I have updated the Sun4v VBSC/POST interface document with a section on
Congo platform. Updated document has been copied in case materials
directory -
http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2008/086/materials/sun4v_vbsc_post_interface.txt

Differences from the original specification (FWARC/2007/605) are at -
http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2008/086/materials/sun4v_vbsc_post_interface.txt.diff

IAM* file for FWARC/2007/605 has been updated with a comment indicating
that the interface has been updated by FWARC/2008/086.

FWARC main page has been updated with a pointer to the latest VBSC/POST
interface specification. (See "FWARC Approved Specification" section)

Thanks,
Sunit
