I am sponsoring this case as a self-review case for Ted Vo.

This case has gone through review with UIRB and
has gotten an approval. An Opinion for UIRB case
will be available soon. See attached "approval" mail
from Charles LaBrec.

The reason for self-review is that the case adds just
one option (-u) to the existing CLI (defined by
FWARC/2006/367) and this change has been
extensively reviewed by UIRB (by Charles LaBrec).
UIRB review case is http://sac.eng/UIRB/2008/112/

The changes are in attached one-pager and also
available at,
http://sac.eng/Archives/CaseLog/arc/FWARC/2008/147/Materials/Auto-Flashupdate.1pager

This case is seeking following release bindings.

Release Binding:
  firmware: minor/micro firmware release
  OS: minor/micro/patch OS release.

2. Project Summary
   2.1. Project Description

Current system firmware upgrade requires users' interactions to:
Download the firmware using sysfwdownload from Solaris.
Power down the system, flashupdate, resetsc and poweron from ALOM/ILOM.

This project is to add an option to ALOM/ILOM to initiate all the steps
required to be done for the firmware update from the time download
starts in Solaris without switch back and forth to ALOM/ILOM.

This project requires changes in two areas:

	(1) In Solaris System Firmware Download tool (sysfwdownload):
Adding update CLI Option to request ALOM/ILOM perform an update
sequence after firmware download is completed.

	(2) In ALOM/ILOM
Adding codes to handle auto firmware update sequence.

4. Technical Description

This implementation requires changes in both sysfwdownload tool and ALOM/ILOM.

   4.1 Sysfwdownload tool:

Adding update CLI "-u", "--update" option.
When update option is present, sysfwdownload gives a Warning message
that system will be powered down for an automatic flashupdate
upon a successful firmware download, and asks user to confirm "yes"
	before it continues.

With update option, sysfwdownload sets an UPDATE flag in the header of
the last packet to ask ALOM/ILOM start a Firmware update sequence.
This is an internal implementation and there is no change in ALOM/ILOM's
	interface.

	Sysfwdownload CLI Table:
	-----------------------------------------------------------------
	sysfwdownload [-u] [-g] [-h] <file>
	-----------------------------------------------------------------
	-u : auto update option
-g : retrieve firmware version string from SP
	-h : print usage message

    4.2 ALOM/ILOM

Firmware download task-handle monitors for auto update request when
	firmware download is completed.

Upon detection of Auto update request, ALOM/ILOM
starts an auto firmware update sequence:

		Graceful power down host.
		Wait for Host Power down completed;
		Open file FW_DOWNLOAD_FILE
		Do flashupdate FW_DOWNLOAD_FILE
		close FW_DOWNLOAD_FILE
Set a flag for Auto power on after resetsc
on the start up of new RSC shell
		Reset SC

At the Start up of new RSC shell after Reset SC
               If Auto update flag set
Power on Host before SC logon prompt.
			Boot Solaris.

Looks like you can consider that the case is approved as specified in
the attached. I'll try to get the opinion out as soon as I can. There
won't be any actions you'll need to take on it.
