I am sponsoring this fast-track case for Scott Davenport. PRI
structures are updated with
amendments to the component node and phys_io node definitions. These
changes are
required to support the SUN4V Platform Independent Topology Enumerator.
This case
also add a property to Guest MD and also to PCI Express device tree
created by OpenBoot.

See details in the case directory (also in links below).

Timer for this case is set to expire on May 12th, 2008.

The changes to be reviewed by this case,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/pi_pri.txt

One-pager for this case,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/sun4v-pi-fma-enum-1pager.txt

Interface Table for this case,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/interface-table.txt

Updated overall PRI document which includes changes from all
other cases including 2008/291,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/PRI_Specification_13.txt

Note that, the addition of "iodevice" node in PRI was not covered by any
other past case. I requested Scott to add that to his case so that we have
completer PRI document with all of the nodes in it. This project
changes some
parts of the "iodevice" node but defines entire node for completeness.
The "iodevice" node in PRI is derived from an equivalent node in MD
defined by 2007/070 case. See case materials for details.

This case will be approved for minor/micro/patch OS binding and
minor/micro binding for the firmware.

Thanks.

I am suspending this case until further notice. The reason for
suspension is that
Cindi pointed out that the project team need to get the FMA portfolio
approved
first before ARC case can be approved. You can still review the case
and provide
comments to project team but for now I am suspending this case till
further notice.
The state of this case will move to "waiting need spec".

The project team has gotten approval from FMA portfolio review. So, this
case can now move forward. As part of the portfolio review couple of
changes were requested. Project team has made following changes to
the specifications first submitted earlier this month.

The name of the property "fru-boundary" is replaced
with "chassis-location-name". Also clarified the 'id'
property with a grandfather clause for nodes that use
it already.

The latest material is available in the case directory at the following
locations
(same as when the case was first submitted - be sure to "refresh" the
document
in your browser so that you don't get the cached version of the document).

The changes to be reviewed by this case,

One-pager for this case,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/sun4v-pi-fma-enum-1pager.txt

Interface Table for this case,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/interface-table.txt

Updated overall PRI document which includes changes from all
other cases including 2008/291,
http://sac.sfbay/FWARC/2008/300/materials/PRI_Specification_13.txt

The timer for this case is set to time-out on June 2, 2008 (Monday).
The timer is longer than 7 days to account for a holiday in US.

This case will be approved for minor/micro/patch OS binding and
minor/micro binding for the firmware.

Thanks.

The proposed 'topo-hc-name' property seems to have a lot of overlap with the
existing 'type' property, except the latter is more general and the other more
specific. Can we somehow collapse these into a single property? I'm guessing
for legacy reasons this might not be possible. I'm wondering if fma actually
uses both properties in the sun4v enumerator, other than using 'type' as a
fallback when 'topo-hc-name' is missing.

Ignoring existing platforms, if fw for rock/kt did not have 'type' in the PRI,
can fma manage on 'topo-hc-name' alone?

Kevin,

Exactly...for legacy reasons, we did not want to touch the "type"
property.
I did consider going the route of using "type", but that would mean at
least
a little hackery in the enum to grandfather in "type" names like
'processor'
(where FMA wants 'chip'). IIRC 'strand' is another one.

Also, this would likely mean more FWARC cases to introduce new component
types. Things like "hostbridge", "pciexrc", and "niu" come to mind for
KT.

The sun4v enum will *only* use the 'topo-hc-name'. "type" is ignored by
the enumerator. Of course, previous platforms use "type". And I believe
other consumers of the PRI use the "type" value as well.

FMA yes, but I can't speak for other PRI clients.

This case is now approved for minor/micro/patch OS binding and
