Interest List: tenaya-sw@sun.com 2. Project Summary 2.1. Project Description: Tenaya is a N2 based rackmount server. Tenaya uses a new ethernet controller that takes the SerDes output of the N2 processor as input and exports 1GB copper ethernet. It exports solely 1GB speed over the copper Ethernet. This case updates FWARC/2006/566 and FWARC/2007/288 to define an additional "phy-type" property value for 1G Copper Phy. 2.2. Risks and Assumptions: If this property value is not defined, NIU driver(nxge) do not understand tenaya configuration and will attempt to initialize the PHY(and fail). 3. Business Summary 3.1. Problem Area: Without this property, nxge driver doesn't know how to initialize the physical layer on Tenaya. 3.2. Market/Requester: 3.3. Business Justification: 3.4. Competitive Analysis: 3.5. Opportunity Window/Exposure: 3.6. How will you know when you are done?: When the OS driver initialize according to the "phy-type" defined. 4. Technical Description: 4.1. Details: To initialize the internal SerDes for data communication over xaui a new property values for "phy-type" is defined. The current set of property values are listed in FWARC/2007/288. The additional "phy-type" value for 1G Copper Phy is defined below. "phy-type" Type: Prop-encoded-string Contents: Sun private property to indicate the type of the physical layer Value: "gsdc" for 1G Copper 4.2. Bug/RFE Number(s): TBD 4.3. In Scope: Section 4.1 4.4.
