	  LSARC/2004/334 filed on 23 April, 2004)

4. Technical Description

Proposal:
---------

Sun Studio 12 EOF for Sun Studio compiler flags:

-xchip={386,486}, xtarget={386,486}, -x386, -x486

The EOF announcement at the Developer's portal website
for the Sun Studio 9.

Background:
-----------

Solaris dropped support for 386 CPU's after Solaris 7, and 486 CPU's after
Solaris 8 and made pentium the default. When we submitted "new compiler flags
for IA32 processors proposal"(ARC case LSARC/484), there was suggestion that we
EOF of these values. Sun Studio 9 Solaris x86 minimum system/processor
requirement is Pentium III.

User Impact:
------------

There should not be any user impact. No library shipped by us were known of
being built with -xchip={386, 486}.
