The "3D Server Technologies" case LSARC/2006/547 includes extensions
to Sun Grid Engine (SGE, formerly Sun N1 Grid Engine, N1GE) that allow
SGE to select a graphics board, as well as a host for a user's job.
This shipped as part of Sun's "Shared Visualization Software" product.
These components are controlled by Sun.

This fast track covers changes to Sun's components of Sun's "Shared
Visualization Software" since its release 1.0 (case LSARC/2006/547).
The 1.1 release is focussing on usability improvement (and bug fixes).
Some of the SGE extensions are for use with Sun's Scalable Visualization
solution, which is hardware and software available through Customer
Ready Systems (CRS) to use as a graphics cluster.

Materials are in the case directory's materials subdirectory. This message
is the case directory's proposal file (and will be improved in response to
questions or issues).

This Fast Track will timeout at 6PM Pacific on Friday, October 12.
(A related fast track LSARC/2007/578 was submitted yesterday.)

New components -- SGE Integration
add_to_complex	script added to automate addition of graphics
			resources to SGE's vocabulary.

config_gfx script added to help admins set graphics resource
			values

RUN.glxgears	An SGE job submission script that invokes
glxgears example program (common on Solaris
    			and Linux hosts).

RUN.glxspheres	Same for our project's glxspheres example.

sc/ Components to interface Shared Visualization SW
and SGE to Sun Scalable Visualization solutions
    			from CRS.
pe.conf Create an SGE "parallel environment" named "sc"
(for scalable or subcluster) to control Scalable Vis.
    			jobs
master Script users can submit to SGE to start a parallel
job using SGE's "sc" parallel env.
queue.template	Input to a Scalable Vis. subcluster tool.

my1_3x2/ Example cluster (or subcluster) configuration
These interface Shared Visualization SW and SGE
to Sun Scalable Visualization solutions from CRS.
    	chromium.conf Controls Chromium over Infiniband
    	chromium_ether.conf	Controls Chromium over ethernet
    	wall.conf Controls DMX over Infiniband
    	wall_ether.conf Controls DMX over ethernet
queue.conf File to create & configure SGE queue

New functionality -- SGE Integration
Additional resources added to SGE to aid integration with Scalable Vis:
	headnode sc_cols sc_rows

New functionality -- SGE Advance Reservation facility
Both GUI and command line can now ask for E-mail to be sent when
reservation is confirmed, begins, completes, is cancelled, or N
minutes before it starts. Reservations now include their
hostname and E-mail orders. See materials/Reserve for more info.

New components -- Visualization Report package
   SUNWvrpt and sun-vis-report.noarch.rpm

Purpose of this package is to dump everything we might need to
know (about the OS, our SW versions, X server config, env. vars)
to debug whether a problem is in the installation, configuration,
user's use of our SW, or an actual bug in the SW. It offers:

vis_report	Script for Solaris and Linux, dumps to stdout

Updates to LSARC/2006/547's questionnaire

(Q4.2) Shared Vis. 1.0's systems can include NVidia's Quadro Plex
external graphics boxes attached via cable to a x8 or x16 PCI-Express
interface card. Shared Vis 1.1 also supports NVidia's Tesla boxes,
which are similar in concept, but don't output video. They are
intended for general-purpose use of the graphics processor units
(GPGPU), but also support OpenGL P-buffer rendering, as we'd do on
    a graphics server.
