I also don't think Volatile as the only classification for a vncviewer is acceptable - particularly given that it is a core component of how xVM is used and tools like virt-install(1M) need to call it. This was initiated by community request for a more full featured vncviewer than the stripped down java applet version: http://www.opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=41087&tstart=60 and to ease delivery to an update release of Solaris 10, which does not have Vino. Nor did I know until this week that Vino is currently called in virt-install but so could vncviewer be as well (I think the need for vino modifications go away with this case though). Vino is a VNC server that exports the contents of your running X session. To allow users on machines without a local vncviewer installed to connect to a running session, Vino and Xvnc both offer an option to listen on a TCP port for an http connection to which they respond with an html page embedding a Java applet client. (They both offer up the same .jar files from the RealVNC project for this applet.) The previous case (2007/391) simply provided a shell script that ran java -jar /usr/share/gnome/vino/vino-client.jar to allow use of this applet as a standalone vncviewer.
