I am sponsoring this fasttrack for Roland Mainz, and have set the timer
for one week from today, Friday, June 20.

4. Technical Description

Summary
----------
Solaris is currently missing a facility for creating, editing, debugging,
comparing and converting fonts. FontForge would mitigate this gap, by
providing such a needed facility which is capable of creating, editing,
transforming bitmap and outline fonts in various formats such as
TrueType/OpenType, PostScript Type 0/1/3(outline+bitmaps)/42/CID,
BDF/PCF/PMF, FON, NFNT, and SVG ; and providing extended and scriptable
editing and debugging facilities.

fontforge-20080607 will be integrated into the SFW consolidation as part
of this proposal, and will be installed as SUNWfontforge.

This project requests a micro/patch release binding.

Notes
=====

Note we deliver both 32bit and 64bit versions of "fontforge", selected via
/usr/lib/isaexec. The 64bit version is needed since Asian fonts can be very
large (>= 80MB disk space) and having multiple fonts opened in the editor
(for example for comparision or glyph copying) or generating sets of
larger bitmap fonts from these outline fonts quickly reaches the 2GB
barrier.

Roland and Alan,

What is placed into /usr/share/fontforge?

Are contracts needed for the imported interfaces
that are External/Volatile?

Shouldn't the language files actually be Project
Private?

Thanks,

John

Alan,

Is there a reason why this fast track did not go to
lsarc-ext? Is it not open? If not then why not?

Thanks,

John

Because I let sac_nextcase send the mail and assumed it
would use lsarc-ext, but I must have been wrong - I'll
resend it there.

Notes
=====

Note we deliver both 32bit and 64bit versions of "fontforge", selected via
/usr/lib/isaexec. The 64bit version is needed since Asian fonts can be very
large (>= 80MB disk space) and having multiple fonts opened in the editor
(for example for comparision or glyph copying) or generating sets of
larger bitmap fonts from these outline fonts quickly reaches the 2GB
barrier.

Text files, tables etc. which are not included in the binaries itself...

Uhm... AFAIK no (at least I don't remeber that any of the other SFWNV
ARC cases did such stuff).

Do you mean the message catalogs ? If "yes" ... AFAIK they should be
"project private" - they are portable across architectures but specific
to the binaries we ship...

Is the end user expected to modify these files, look at them, ....?
If not then the stuff in the directory should be considered Project
Private as should the directory.

The other stuff in SFWNV is probably not Uncommitted but most likely
Volatile or External. Please talk to Alan about a contract for
FreeType2.

Ok. Please update the interface table for the FontForge.mo file.

The only one that crosses consolidation boundaries is freetype.
I've copied our existing freetype contracts and put a copy in
the case directory as contract-2002-291-02.

Since the responsible manager for both consumer & supplier are
the same, I'm sure he'll agree to work with himself on this.

Since the timeout has been reached and there are no remaining open issues,
I am marking the case closed approved.

The final spec has been placed in the spec.txt file in the case materials
directory - changes from the original spec are the agreed upon changes to
stability levels (Contracted External for libfreetype2, Project Private for
/usr/share/fontforge & the FontForge.mo files).
