This functionality was contained in the post install section of SVR4 packages on Solaris. The SUNWpostrun service and package are not be obsoleted as they are still used in some places, namely Staroffice. The IPS (Image Packaging System) does not cater for post install functionality, SUNWdesktop-cache was designed to replace this functionality on OpenSolaris. The case materials contains the details of a new package SUNWdesktop-cache which provides 6 new SMF services responsible for updating the various desktop related caches. The desktop stack now uses these interfaces instead of postrun because OpenSolaris does not cater to post install functionality. Aside from this, the SUNWgnome-base-libs package has been split into separate packages, one for each module. This allows the desktop team to minimize dependencies among packages. The SUNWgnome-base-libs package is still delivered, but has no contents, so that any packages which depend on it will not have issues. There are also a 3 new Volatile binaries shipped due to shipping the latest versions of desktop-search and avant-window-manager. This project proposes to follow the Gnome Community with the Gnome 2.26 release. The previous case (LSARC/2009/203) was based upon the development version of Gnome (aka Gnome 2.25). As already stated the majority of interfaces that have changed when compared to the previous case are declared Volatile. The project is requesting a Minor release binding.
