Project Description: With the coming of the new CIFS server for Solaris, the sharemgr implementation needs to take the requirements of CIFS into account. This project pulls in the new requirements that CIFS imposes on share. 2.2. Risks and Assumptions: Risks are relatively small. They introduce some changes in the command line interface as well as in the underlying APIs. The changes are in a largely unused aspect of the interface for NFS. The original case was PSARC/2005/374 which is only in ON Nevada. This project will have a stability level of Committed. 3. Business Summary 3.1. Details: CIFS imposes a few new requirements. The most visible to the user is the need to have multiple resource name (share names) per path shared. Each resource name must be unique and be case-insensitive and can have operational properties associated with it. Internally, sharemgr will treat resource names as a true object and allow properties to be associated with them. Multiple resource names can be associated with a single share. If the system is using NFS only, then there is no need for a resource name to be associated with a share. Once the CIFS (SMB) sharing is added to a group, resource names are mandatory and must be added when adding the share to the group. To accommodate upgrade scenarios, SMB won't automatically be enabled on existing groups and adding the protocol via the "sharemgr create -P smb " call will fail unless all existing shares have a resource name. As a convenience, a -f (force) option is provided which will add the protocol and will also create unique resource names based on the path name. If a "sharemgr add-share -r newname -s path group" is done and path already exists, this adds a new resource name to the share represented by path. A "sharemgr remove-share -r name -s path group" will remove the name from the share represented by path unless it is the last resource name in which case it will remove the share as well. If the command used is "sharemgr remove-share -s path group" is used, it says to remove the path and all resource names associated with it. It is possible to set properties on resource names using "sharemgr set -P proto -p prop=value ... -s path -r name group" Unset works similarly. Protocols that don't support resource names directly (e.g. NFS) will be able to use them, but they are simple aliases for the path. That is, if you attempt to set an NFS property on a resource name, it applies to the share itself. The "sharemgr set-share ..." command will no longer set resource names but can be used to set descriptions on shares and resource names. It can also be used to change a resource name. For example: "sharemgr set-share -r oldname=newname -s path group" Output of the "sharemgr show" command will be enhanced to list resource names separately and show any protocol properties that may be associated with them. Once the CIFS plugin is delivered, both sharemgr and sharectl will have support to manage the CIFS server. 4.2. Bug/RFE Number(s): 6494624 sharemgr needs to support CIFS shares better 4.3.
