Perhaps this is a sign that perhaps "we" should consider cutting to the chase and merging these two PSARCs and any others like them to form a "fold /usr/sfw/* into /usr/*" PSARC instead of addressing each component individually within its own PSARC. If the status quo continues it will be hard to understand, from a user/developer standpoint, if there are any technical reasons why / usr/(bin|lib|share|...) contain some GNU bits while yet other GNU bits remain under /usr/sfw/. It can certainly give the impression of it being willy-nilly or haphazard at the least. Any namespace collisions between the two is, in most cases, already addressed by the GNU-born "standard" of prefixing its utilities with "g" (ergo; /usr/sfw/bin/awk -> /usr/bin/gawk and so forth). Architecturally I completely agree. However not everything in /usr/sfw delivers from a single consolidation or is looked after by a small set of people.
