I'm submitting the following fasttrack on my own behalf. Its to add a
new GLDv3 driver for a commodity chip (one I happen to have several
of). Time out is set for 5/30/2007, and binding requested is minor.

It probably qualifies for automatic approval, but as it increases the
number of GLDv3 device drivers, and as the chip is no longer marketed, I
would like to give PSARC a chance to complain before I drive forward
with this.

As I've only implemented this to the version of GLDv3 in Nevada, and as
I have a GLDv2 version publically available, I'm not interested in
backporting to Solaris 10, though if there is demand I'm willing to do it.

Fasttrack: mxfe ethernet driver

We'd like to add a new device driver, "mxfe", to provide support various
chips based on the Macronix PMAC 98715/98713 and Lite-On PNIC-II. These
are commodity 10/100 ethernet controllers.

These chips are used primarily on add-in PCI cards, typically 32/33MHz
(i.e. legacy PCI). While we do not believe that they are actively marketed
any more, there are quite a few of them out in the field.

OEM'd cards included the Linksys LNE100TX version 2, cards from Compex,
Buffalo, Kingston, and a few other manufacturers. Time Warner included
Kingston KNE-111TX cards with their home Cable Modems for a while. The
installed base is significant, though not overwhelming.

The device driver is a GLDv3 driver, and supports the normal GLDv3 features,
which makes it useful for VLANs, aggregation, and with other OS features
like Crossbow's IP instances.

It does not rely on any private APIs other than GLDv3 (which is
Consolidation
Private). It does support NDD through an independent implementation of the
NDD ioctls (i.e. it doesn't use any code from drv/ip.)

This driver is based upon an older GLDv2 driver, which was distributed under
a BSD license. We'd like to retain the BSD license, but the author has
agreed to contribute under the SCA/CDDL if that is preferable.

Just to answer a few other questions:

    * the driver supports both SPARC and x86
    * the driver supports full MTU VLAN frames
    * the chip is indeed a tulip derivative.
    * I have a spare card I can donate to QA/PIT as needed.

I guess I could have put that in the original e-mail. :-)

If there's nothing to preclude a Patch release binding, why
not ask for one now? There's no requirement to backport.

Different version of GLDv3. Since the APIs are different, I wasn't sure
it was a 100% slam dunk.

And in any case, I don't really care about making it work on S10.
Furthermore, if there is ARC activity required to create a backport
(even trivial) maybe it will discourage anyone from wanting to back port.

I'm still interested in creating carrots for some future Solaris 11... :-)
