ident "@(#)issues 1.7 08/05/28 SAC" ARC Issues file for PSARC/2007/692 ram-1 How do you intend to set up and administer DMM? Is there any significant differences whether in a storage appliance, or on a general purpose computer system? Model would be two package installs and a CLI and GUI. Operation and administration would be the same between a native Solaris platform and one running a storage appliance toolkit though it could be possible that a storage appliance may have a different GUI that DMM would have to accommodate. ram-2 Is there a scheme for mapping identities in DMM? for CIFS users? for NFS users? None internal to DMM. Identity mapping is provided by the CIFS protocol (Winchester) and needs to be addressed for NFS. ram-3 Is there any mechanism to prevent DMM from being used as a general FS replication service? Does there need to be? There is nothing that prevents multiple instances of DMM from being used to replicate the read-only source to multiple file systems either on a single platform or to unique file systems on multiple platforms. ram-4 Other than access to a file eligible for migration in DMM, does an end user (excluding administrator) have any other control or visibility into the process? No, all statistics and policy that control migration are provided only to the CLI and/or GIU which is operated by an administrator-like user. If DMM is successful in it meeting it's goals, an end-user should never know or care if their file system is being migrated. gcs-1 I would like to see a drive-through of some common use cases (to give some idea of how the facility will be used in practice).
