Clients consume MMS through API functions and MM protocols. MTX is designed as a set of small command line tools, which look like extension of original mt. Clients uses MTX by invoking the commands directly from script. Bacula and Amanda are two of famous backup solutions which use MTX. MMS to MTX is like a commercial backup solution to command cpio.
