I am sponsoring this case for Jim Li. The timer has been set to
11/20/2008. The case directory contains this proposal. The project is
requesting the integration of Python YAML, and requesting a Minor
release of Solaris.

Thanks,
Cecilia

2. Technical Description:
     2.1. Details:

YAML (rhymes with “camel”) is a human-friendly, cross language,
Unicode based data serialization language designed around the
common native data structures of agile programming languages.
It is broadly useful for programming needs ranging from
configuration files to Internet messaging to object persistence to
     data auditing.

Its home is at http://www.yaml.org/ . You also can find the
     specification of YAML at http://www.yaml.org/spec/

PyYAML is a complete YAML parser and emitter for Python.

PyYAML features a complete YAML 1.1 parser, Unicode support, pickle
support, capable extension API, and sensible error messages. PyYAML
supports standard YAML tags and provides Python-specific tags that
allow to represent an arbitrary Python object.

PyYAML is applicable for a broad range of tasks from complex
configuration files to object serialization and persistance.

Python YAML is released under the MIT license.

Are C, Java, and Perl bindings separate projects?

Otherwise, +1.

Yes, you can see the module names for YAML implementations in other
languages at the YAML website:

   http://www.yaml.org/

This project only integrates the Python YAML interfaces.

Yes. They are separate projects in community and we don't have plan to
integrate them into Solaris. The main reason for PyYAML is that the
project Codeina depends on PyYAML. Codeina is a codec installer which
we're going to integrate into OpenSolaris 2009.04. You can find the
detail information about Codeina at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Multimedia/Codeina .
