Are we sure about that? The older man page says it is "External". 2) in.named is marked Obsolete. Obsolete is not a stability level itself, but a modifier. (Furthermore, why are you marking it Obsolete. An explanatory comment would be useful.) 3) "dig", "host", "nslookup", and "nsupdate" are all marked Volatile. This makes it effectively impossible to "safely" use these in shell scripts. Is that intentional? (And I thought "nslookup" was being deprecated in bind, so maybe "Obsolete" would be better?) Generally, IMO, "Volatile" should be for things that you expect to change and don't want to deal with possibly breaking applications. I wonder if it was too broadly applied here. I've thought about this and updated the spec (below) with two changes. One is for ndc to "Obsolete", to coincide with the earlier case. The other is to update "host" to Uncommitted because my understanding is that neither dig nor nslookup have been designed to be "scripted" commands, only "host" kind of fits the bill. I'm also pretty sure that I've heard people whisper that either dig or nslookup or both are to be deprecated, so I'm reluctant to elevate either of these.
