Technical Description Title: audioemu10k audio driver Requested Binding: Minor This project proposes to deliver a device driver for the Creative EMU10K based audio devices. These are very common devices, found in various Sound Blaster Live! and Audigy, Audigy 2 and Audigy Value discrete audio boards. Devices are identifiable as pci1102,2, pci1102,4, and pci1102,8. The driver would be called "audioemu10k", and would be delivered in a package audioemu10k. It would use the Consolidation Private Boomer (PSARC 2008/318) interfaces. The package name audioemu10k would "Committed", and the "audioemu10k" driver would be "Uncommitted", as would any specific features delivered by the audioemu10k driver. We are not planning on providing FMA support for this driver (we don't believe it is strategic, and no other audio drivers have FMA support currently). The driver will support suspend/resume, and quiesce(9e). We will be supporting various surround sound capabilities of the device, and possibly SPDIF. The device has a complete DSP (digital signal processor) onboard, but we will not be supporting any of its capabilities at first integration. However, since I've left it that way, I can leave it as a fast track. Hopefully at least one member will +1 this case; its for hardware that I know some people have been clamoring for. There is at least one possibly (but probably not) controversial issue I'd like to raise: I'm not planning on delivering this driver for SPARC. While some SPARC desktops could use it (for example Ultra 45), the first generation cards will not be usable due to addressing limitations, and 2nd generation (Audigy 2) cards -- while usable -- will require extra work to support on SPARC. While the effort is not large, I simply don't think there is call for this functionality. I'll be happy enough to revisit this should someone clamor for this device to be supported on SPARC, by handling it as an RFE.
