Adobe Reader is the global standard tool for viewing, printing and collaborating on Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Refer to section 4.1 for the main features of Adobe Reader 9.3.x. 2.2. Risks and Assumptions: This project only provides the x86 platform edition based on the latest version of Adobe Reader announced at Adobe official website. Adobe will offer full support for Reader 9.3.x x86. There are no plans to update Adobe Reader on sparc to the new 9.3.x version. Please note that x86 and sparc platforms will have its own version respectively. The lack of platform parity might affect Sun Ray. 3. Business Summary 3.1. Problem Area: The Adobe Acrobat reader 9.3.x will be available only for S10 x86 platform. This release will be available as part of the SUNWacroread and SUNWacroread-plugin SVr4 packages for JDS for Solaris. 3.2. How will you know when you are done?: After building acroread for x86, we will need to run test suites which include sanity tests, security tests, rendering tests, l10n tests and platform specific tests. The Desktop QA team will test and approve Adobe Reader 9.3.x on Solaris 10. Adobe Reader 9.3.x can be installed on Solaris x86 by installing or upgrading to Solaris 10 Update 10. An alternate solution would be to install SUNWacroread and SUNWacroread-plugin packages on x86 from S10U10 media CD. 4. Technical Description: 4.1. Details: Currently the Solaris 10 x86 platform doesn't have Adobe Reader. Adobe has released Adobe Reader (acroread) 9.x for the Solaris x86 platform recently. This project essentially will deliver Adobe Reader 9.3.x to Solaris 10 for the x86 platform. Adobe Reader 9.3.x comes with a sleek user interface and the following main features: * Adobe 9.3.x has enhanced general performance and, in particular, has reduced launch times compared with Adobe Reader 9. * Portfolios provide easy navigation while working with multiple PDF documents and other document types. * It provides new digital signature functionality for an improved user experience. The new version also adds support for 256-bit AES encryption * Adobe Reader 9 significantly improves the viewing of XFA forms for accessibility, while providing greater screen reader support. 4.2.
